A 70-year-old man in Lynn, Massachusetts, has been fined multiple times for not shoveling the sidewalk in front of his house. The problem is, the sidewalk no longer exists.
“I got tickets for not shoveling the sidewalk and I don't have any sidewalk,” Bob Flynn told WHDH.
Flynn said that the town is concerned that snow on his property is a safety hazard. He has been fined $50, which was reduced to $20 after Flynn petitioned. However, even after paying the fine, Flynn received another penalty for $100.
“When you petition they tell you that you have to shovel the street even though that's a snow plow's job," he said.

Lynn’s Assistant Parking Director Bob Stilian explained that there used to be a sidewalk in front of Flynn’s house. However, it is covered with plant growth.
“There is a walkway there that should be maintained for the safety of the citizens,” Stilian told WHDH. “All they are looking for is a barrier to protect the children so they aren't walking out in the street.”
The town agreed to remove the fine, but insisted that Flynn clear a path where pedestrians can walk.
After the harsh winter that Massachusetts has witnessed, the 70-year-old man is hoping the snow will melt.
“I don't know if they are going to keep going up or if that's going to be it,” Flynn concluded.
