A 7-year-old boy was caught on surveillance video (below) punching an armed robber at a GameStop store in Silver Spring, Maryland, on May 20.

The boy and his parents were in the store buying a present for a friend when two masked men, wearing hoodies and carrying guns, entered just before closing time.

"They were on top of us really before we knew what was happening," the boy's dad, who didn't want to reveal his name, told WJLA.

"And they pointed their gun at us, told us to get on the floor, pushed us on the floor," the boy's father added.

However, the boy wasn't having it. While holding a stuffed animal toy, he threw punches at one of the suspects.

"He's a brave little boy, and he just recognized that he was in a dangerous situation," the dad said. "And that was a stranger and he was trying to defend himself."

The boy's mom and dad were on the floor and had a gun aimed at them.

"I said out loud that I need my son and so he broke free from them and came over to us," the dad told WJLA. "I heard death threats [toward the clerks]."

The armed robbers made the clerks get down on the floor while they stole the store's money.

Montgomery County Police are hoping someone recognizes the robbers, who are described as black men in their 20s, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, and weighing 170 pounds.

Police believe the robbers knew exactly what they were doing by robbing the store minutes before closing time when it would be nearly empty.

Jackie Smith, a GameStop spokeswoman, wrote in a statement: "As always, our top priority is the safety and protection of our customers. We are working closely with local law-enforcement as they conduct an investigation."

The dad told NBC Washington that the store let his son keep the stuffed animal that he used to hit the robber with, and that his boy takes it with him everywhere.
