Minutes after being sentenced to jail for trying to restrain and kiss a 14-year-old girl, a middle-aged man collapsed and died outside a Cleveland courtroom.
Miguel Aybar was accused of trying to restrain and kiss the young girl on the mouth “with his tongue.”
Courtroom footage from Wednesday’s sentencing shows Aybar taking the stand and telling the judge – through an interpreter – that he thought the girl had feelings for him.
“She’s 14 years old!” Judge Michelle Early replied.
Aybar was found guilty of a third-degree misdemeanor charge of unlawful restraint, and the judge sentenced him to 60 days in jail.
The footage then shows the 51-year-old man, escorted by two officers, being led out of the courtroom toward the Cleveland City Jail.
Just outside the courtroom, the handcuffed man slumped to the floor.
The coroner’s office is expected to determine the reason behind Aybar’s sudden death.
As Daily Mail reports, the 14-year-old victim’s mother has said the situation is awkward for the family: Aybar was not only her neighbor, but also the stepfather of her boyfriend.
The woman, who remains unnamed, said that the man had been suffering from high blood pressure, and that her daughter never intended for anything like this to happen.
She also admitted to having conflicting feelings about the day’s unexpected casualty; although she feels that justice was served for her daughter, she also feels sorry for the Aybar family’s loss.
