17-Year-Old Boy Faces Felony Charges For Sexting With 15-Year-Old Girlfriend

A 17-year-old from Manassas City, Virginia is facing felony charges for possession of child pornography and manufacturing child pornography for exchanging nude photographs and videos with his 15-year-old girlfriend.

If convicted, the teenager would face imprisonment until the age of 21 and inclusion in the Virginia state sex offender database for the remainder of his life.

In addition to the harsh response to the images shared between the couple, Manassas City Police and prosecutors have reportedly issued a search warrant that may force the teen to take photographs of his erect penis. According to the Washington Post, the teenager may have to be injected at a hospital in order to become erect so that the police can compare his penis to the pictures they have obtained.

As Gawker reports, assistant Commonwealth attorney Jessica Foster told her team the following: “We just take him down to the hospital, give him a shot, and then take the pictures that we need.”

Carlos Flores Laboy, the teen’s appointed guardian ad litem in the case, pointed out the irony in the authorities’ decision to photograph a teen accused of photographing himself pornographically.

“They’re using a statute that was designed to protect children from being exploited in a sexual manner to take a picture of this young man in a sexually explicit manner. The irony is incredible. As a parent myself, I was floored. We’re wasting thousands of dollars and resources and man hours on a sexting case. That’s what we’re doing,” Flores Laboy said.

The boy’s troubles with the authorities began after the mother of the involved girl filed a complaint. The girl, who has not been charged in the case, actually initiated the back-and-forth sexting exchange by sending the boy photographs of herself. The boy responded with the video that is now in the hands of a juvenile court. The teen will return to court on July 15.
