A 15-year-old girl in Malawi in southeast Africa is in police custody after she allegedly cut off her husband's penis.
The girl, of Phalombe district, became angry at her 22-year-old husband, Misheck Chinkhuku, after he turned her down for sex.
Chinkhuku, a fisherman by trade, was attacked by his wife Olivia Kalimbuka-Chinhuku on Monday when he returned home from a fishing trip, Phalombe Police Public Relations Officer Augustus Nkhwazi told Nyasa Times in an interview.
Olivia, who is five months pregnant, is said to have amputated her husband's genital with a sharp knife while he was sleeping.
“The husband came back home on 28th April, 2014 from Lake Chilwa where he had been for three days. Upon arrival home his wife welcomed him, and as they were retiring to bed, she asked for sex. But the hubby is said to have refused as he was too tired,” Nkhwazi explained.
“This did not go down well with the wife who resorted to slicing his genitals while he was fast asleep. He was awakened by the severe pain inflicted by the knife and shouted for help,” Nkhwazi added.
Neighbors tried to help, and the victim was rushed to Chitekesa Health center where he was referred to Holy Family Mission Hospital. He is currently at Zomba Central hospital receiving medical attention.
Olivia is set to appear in court soon for unlawful wounding.
According to FaceofMalawi.com, gender-based violence is a problem that has become pervasive in most Malawian marriages today, with victims from both genders but only female abuse has been reported.
