A brief, but heartbreaking, video of a young boy flushing his dead goldfish is grabbing a lot of attention and generating many a tear across the Internet.

According to the Daily Mail, the video (shown below) shows young Kowen Geherman of Alberta, Canada, staging a small funeral for his finned friend.

“What are you going to do with him?” asks Kowen’s mom, Brooke Geherman, as she records the brief ceremony.

“Where are you going to put him?” she asks.

“In the toilet,” Kowen replies, pointing, after giving the fish a small kiss.

Kowen seems plenty upbeat at the beginning of the video.

But the mood quickly shifts as he flushes the toilet and says goodbye to his pet.

As the finality of the action sets in, Kowen pats his stomach and looks up at his mom and begins to cry.

“What’s wrong?” asks his mom.

“I’m sad,” Kowen says through his tears as he leans in for a hug.

Geherman later published the video on her Facebook page, according to WPVI News. There, it received over 2 million views and was shared at least 63,000 times.

It has since been posted to YouTube numerous times. One posting has generated over 3.7 million views.
