Burger King Workers Fired After Bad Remark About Cop

A South Carolina fast food worker was fired for allegedly making a comment about the death of a Greenville officer. She denies she made the comment.

A Greenville woman, Rachel Sanders, says she went to Burger King and started talking about the death of Officer Allen Jacobs to the cashier. The officer was reportedly fatally shot on March 18 by a 17-year-old gang member.

The customer alleges a manager came over and said, “The cop got what he deserved, messing with these kids for no reason.”

The manager fired the cashier for insubordination, reports WYFF. The Burger King restaurant fired the manager the day after the cashier was fired.

Sanders made a Facebook post about her experience and it had been shared more than 20,000 times in two days.

"I was totally shocked. I was blown away. I could not believe what I had heard," told WYFF.

Of the manager being fired, Sanders said, "It felt like really that something had been lifted off of me because I was just so -- when he told me that she had been terminated for that, that really made me feel better about the whole situation," she said.

The cashier told WYFF the Burger King owner called and offered her job back on March 23, but she’s not sure if she’ll take it.

"I think it would be awkward, but we're going to meet to talk (March 23) and see what we can work out," the cashier said.

The manager says she fired the cashier for insubordination. The fired manager says she did not make the tactless comment, reports WYFF. She says she was let go for terminating the cashier in an inappropriate way.

"I feel like I'm the most hated person in Greenville, South Carolina, right now over a lie and over someone getting fired and felt like getting revenge by doing something like this. This is very hateful," the manager said. "There's no way I would say something like that about anybody.  ou know, 'they deserve to die.'  I would never say that. It was never said. All this is about is somebody getting terminated and trying to get revenge."

According to the customer, the Burger King franchise owner Larry Stokes told her the manager was fired for the comment and apologized for what happened.

An official statement from the Burger King corporate office states:

"We extend our condolences to the family of Officer Jacobs and the Greenville community. We are concerned about this incident and take these matters very seriously. The Franchise Owner, who independently owns and operates this restaurant, is launching an investigation in accordance with their personnel procedures."
