Woman Warns Others After Finding Rubber Band On Door

A Texas woman's Facebook post about a burglar who attempted to break into her home has gone viral.

Kim Cernigliaro said she was home alone when she heard a loud banging on her front door, WIMP reported. Cernigliaro felt something was not right and decided to ignore it.

“After several Knocks, they finally left,” she wrote in a now-viral Facebook post. “I glanced and could see it was a man through the stained glass of my door.”

Cernigliaro waited 30 minutes for the man to leave. When she opened the door, she found a rubber band on her doorknob.

“The Sheriff came by yesterday and said this is happening all of a sudden, as soon as you unlatch the door, they do not wait for you to turn the knob, they can bust in on you,” Cernigliaro continued.

The method is common for burglars, according to the local sheriff. Cernigliaro now hopes her story will raise awareness.

“Do NOT ANSWER doors without knowing for sure you know who is on the other side!” Cernigliaro wrote. “Those days are over!!!!”

Cernigliaro also had a message for any future burglars who might target her home.

“So let me just say, I have a GUN and I know how to use it, just FYI, I out shot my husband the last time we target practiced, so believe me, I will use it,” she added. “I have too much to live for!”
