Woman Hits Back At Shop Clerks Who Laughed At Her Shorts

An English woman who was mocked by two employees at a health and beauty store responded to the incident on Facebook, and her post has gone viral.

Harriet Rae, who lives in Cornwall, was shopping at Superdrug when she says two female employees began making comments about her outfit.

"To the two girls working in Truro Superdrug this afternoon," Rae wrote on Facebook on July 23. "Don't worry, I heard the comments you made to each other about my appearance and my shorts. You spoke loud enough for most people to hear."

"I don’t believe you gained anything from it apart from looking a little bit silly when you realized I heard you," she added. "If somehow you end up reading this, as Cornwall is a very small place, can you be a little bit kinder with your words? Some [people's] skin isn't as thick as mine has become and the next [person's] might be very thin indeed."

What Rae said next is perhaps the reason why her response was such a hit, having been shared over 50,000 times.

"So in response to your comments," she wrote, "I send back some love! If you did your own hair and makeup for work today, you are both very talented. I could never get my winged liner or my ponytail that perfect!"

Rae later updated the post after the Superdrug head office called her to apologize for the incident.

"I reinforced that the intended message of the post was to spread kindness and positivity, not embarrassment or hurt," she wrote. "They understood and accepted that I didn't want to give a description of the people or my location in the store when it happened. They have also said that my post will be used in training in the future to make sure it doesn't happen again."

Superdrug released a statement in which they apologize for Rae's experience.

"Following the post on Facebook we launched an immediate investigation," the statement read, according to the Huffington Post. "At Superdrug we pride ourselves on the highest levels of customer service and would like to apologize unreservedly if on this occasion we have failed to meet our high standards. We are in touch with Harriet and have apologized."
