A customer at a North Carolina KFC restaurant reportedly found a chicken part in her meal that she did not order.
Lucy Parker Randall of Charlotte, North Carolina, made the discovery while eating at a KFC restaurant in Denver, North Carolina, on April 15 with her daughter, Lilly, according to a post the woman wrote on Facebook.
Randall ordered a leg and a thigh, but after digging into her meal she found what appeared to be an internal chicken organ in her food.
"I started eating and I look down to see this disgusting crap," she wrote in an April 15 Facebook post. "I started hurling and almost crying all at the same time. I've never been so grossed out in my entire life."
Randall, who attached a picture of her discovery to the post, wrote that she planned to call the health department the next day.
"I will NEVER eat there again and I hope you share this and won't eat there either!" she wrote. " ... If you want to know why I'm a sudden vegetarian, this picture is ALL you need to see."
In a later update to the post, Randall added that the organ she discovered "looks like a brain but after a lot of research I believe it is a kidney."
A spokesperson for KFC confirmed to WSO that the woman found a piece of the chicken's kidney that was not removed during cooking.
The fast food chain released this statement to WSO:
Although the franchisee who owns this restaurant has not received the product, it appears from a photograph that, unfortunately, on this occasion a kidney may not have been removed during the prep inspection process. We're very sorry about this guest’s experience, and while there was no health risk, we agree it was not appetizing. The franchisee has been in contact with the guest to resolve the matter.
Randall said she felt sick after the meal at KFC, although she isn't sure whether her illness was caused by the food. She has hired an attorney.
The woman's Facebook post has been shared more than 3,000 times in six days.
