A company shocked New Yorkers after word got out about its new booth in the middle of New York City that serves to help men “relieve stress” during the workday.
Hot Octopuss, a sex toy company, unveiled its GuyFi booth on Jan. 12 at 28th Street and Fifth Avenue in Manhattan in which men could theoretically masturbate to relieve some stress for free.
GuyFi was built in an unused telephone booth by simply adding a curtain, a laptop and a folding chair, which the company says is “designed to give the busy Manhattan man the privacy, and the high-speed Internet connection, he deserves.”
The concept for the booth, which also serves as marketing for Hot Octopuss, was conceived after employees of Hot Octopuss read a Time Out survey in which roughly 39 percent of New York men surveyed admitted to pleasuring themselves at work.
The company claims 100 men used it on the first day, reports Mashable.
“At Hot Octopuss we are all about looking for new solutions to improve everyday life and we feel we’ve done just that with the new GuyFi booth,” Hot Octopuss co-founder Adam Lewis said in a statement. “We hope the city’s men enjoy using the space we’ve created in whatever way they want.”
A representative for the company later clarified to Mashable that “the brand is not actively encouraging people to masturbate in public as that is an illegal offense.”
