President Barack Obama received a surprise during his appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” The talk show host screened a Valentine’s Day message from first lady Michelle Obama and then gave the president a chance to give a romantic response (video below).
President Obama sat down with Ellen DeGeneres on Feb. 12, with Valentine’s Day just around the corner. DeGeneres told the president she had a surprise for him and queued a video from the first lady, The Huffington Post reports.
“I just wanted to wish you a Happy Valentine’s Day,” Michelle said while the president beamed as he watched.
In honor of the power couple's last time spending the holiday in the White House, she wrote a love poem for her husband: “Roses are red, violets are blue, you are the president and I am your boo.”

“I wrote that while I was doing a hundred pushups this morning,” the first lady added. “Gets the creative juices flowing.”
DeGeneres then offered the president a platform to make his own Valentine’s Day message for his wife, leading him to a red velvet curtain background drizzled with rose petals.
“Somebody call the situation room,” President Obama said. “Because things are about to get hot!”
The president went into a riff about laying out a spread of Michelle’s favorite veggies, adding that he's made a lot of great decisions as president, but choosing Michelle was the best one he's ever made.

"Because I love you so much, I Obamacare about you more than you even know," Obama said.
The Obamas have a well-chronicled history of romantic gestures, as well as instances of publicly teasing each other.
During a January appearance on BET’s “The Real,” Michelle said her husband was a late-starter in education.
“He didn’t take school seriously in high school,” Mrs. Obama said, according to CNN. “He barely got his work done. He was a bum! And it took him a second. He had to grow up a little bit.”
Throughout his presidency, President Obama has also made numerous jokes about how eager his wife is to leave the public eye.
On Jan. 14, during a speech by the president at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, supporters cheered in favor of him running another term, according to Breitbart.
“Oh, well, I can’t do that,” Obama said. “I can’t do that because of the Constitution. And I can’t do that because Michelle would kill me.”
