Watch: Girl Loses It When Manatee Swims By Her In Florida (Video)

| by Khier Casino

A girl on spring break in Florida was caught on camera freaking out when a "huge" manatee swam by her.

In the video (below), taken with a selfie stick, the frightened girl can be seen in the water desperately looking around for the sea creature.

“Oh my God, get me out of here,” she shouts out. Her friends, who were on a nearby boat, agitated her even further by screaming: “It’s behind you.”

The manatee then swims towards her, and that’s when she loses it, crying: “Oh my God, I see it! It’s right next to me!”

The girl managed to calm down and avoid coming into contact with the sea creature.

What she doesn’t seem to know is that manatees, also known as “sea cows,” are herbivores and mostly eat seagrass and other aquatic plants. They are much more afraid of us than we are of them.

The Florida Manatee Sanctuary Act states: "It is unlawful for any person, at any time, intentionally or negligently, to annoy, molest, harass, or disturb any manatee."

The footage was uploaded on YouTube by Katie Gingrich, one of the young swimmer’s friends, and it has since garnered more than 2 million views.
