President Donald Trump announced that former President Barack Obama stayed within tradition and left him a letter in the Oval Office. He did not reveal to the media what the letter said.
"I just went to the Oval Office and found this beautiful letter from President Obama," Trump said at a swearing-in ceremony for his senior staff at the White House on Jan. 22, the Daily Mail reports.
"It was really very nice of him to do that and we will cherish that, we will keep that and we won't even tell the press what's in that letter," he said, triggering a wave of laughs among the press, The Telegraph reports.
Trump may not be revealing what Obama wrote, but on Jan. 20 the National Archives published the letter that Obama received from outgoing Republican President George W. Bush on his inauguration day.

While Obama had heavily criticized Bush's policies throughout the 2008 presidential campaign, Bush wrote a touching letter welcoming the new leader into the White House in 2009.
Bush started the letter with a "congratulations" and said "you have just begun a fantastic chapter in your life."
"Very few," Bush stated, have had the honor of the responsibility and the excitement of the challenges ahead.
"There will be trying moments," Bush pointed out. "The critics will rage. Your 'friends' will disappoint you. But you will have Almighty God to comfort you, a family who loves you, and a country that is pulling for you, including me."
"No matter what comes, you will be inspired by the character and compassion of the people you now lead," Bush wrote.

The 2016 campaign was characterized by bitter fighting.
Even before running for president, Trump had been a big proponent of the "birther" conspiracy theory, which questioned whether Obama was born in the United States.
Trump bashed Obama openly in the campaign and has already begun dismantling the outgoing president's signature health care law, the Affordable Care Act, often called Obamacare.
Once Trump was elected, Obama reached out to him and the two reportedly talked frequently during the transition period.
