High school students reach the point in their academic lives when it seems like every letter they get in the mail plays a role in determining their path in life. For one student, a rejection letter from Duke University prompted an unexpectedly epic response that let the school know it would not be deciding her future for her.

Siobhan O'Dell, 17, took to her Tumblr blog to issue a response to Duke's rejection letter. Instead of complaining about the decision as many would, O'Dell told the school she was rejecting their rejection.

"After careful consideration, I regret to inform you that I am unable to accept your refusal to offer me admission into the fall 2015 freshman class at Duke," she wrote. "This year I have been fortunate enough to receive rejection letters from the best and brightest universities in the country. With a pool of letters so diverse and accomplished I was unable to accept reject letters I would have been able to only [sic] several years ago."

O'Dell ended her letter with a firm declaration that she would be attending the school at the start of the fall semester.
