Teacher Lets Student Cut Her Hair After Being Bullied For Shaved Head (Video)

After a young student was bullied by classmates for getting his head shaved, his teacher gave him some clippers and let him level the playing field.

Winlock, Washington, teacher Tori Nelson said one of her fourth-grade students, 9-year-old Matthew, came into class early last week distraught. Over the previous weekend, Matthew had gotten a haircut. When he arrived at school on Monday morning, an older student noticed a bald spot on his head and teased him.

The comment crushed him,” Nelson said. “He refused to come into our classroom and would not remove his hat.” Upset that her student was so embarrassed by the incident, Nelson took it upon herself to make him feel better.

“After talking to him for a while, I finally said, ‘If I let you cut my hair so it’s just like yours, will you come learn with us and take your hat off?’” she said. Matthew agreed and Nelson went home during lunch to fetch clippers.

Keeping her word, Nelson set up an area outside of the school and let Matthew shave her head while students gathered around to watch. “Now if anyone makes fun of you, they’re also making fun of me,” she said.

Nelson later posted about the heartwarming moment on her Facebook page.

“Today I heart [sic] being in a situation where I can help other[s] succeed,” she wrote. “He cut my hair after lunch and now no one is ashamed or embarrassed … except maybe my mom. I’m sorry mom!!”
