A Subway employee in Iowa got a special surprise from the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Department after he paid for a deputy's meal.
Deputy Aaron Pattee was working overtime on a robbery case on Oct. 14 when he decided to grab a bite to eat at a Subway restaurant in Underwood, Iowa, WOWT 6 News reported.
An employee identified only as Seth noticed the deputy, pulled out his debit card, and paid for his meal, according to a Facebook post by the Pottawattamie County Sheriff's Department.
The Oct. 15 post read:
“Yesterday, while Deputy Aaron Pattee was working well past his regular shift assisting other deputies on a robbery, he had a few minutes to stop at the Underwood Subway. As he gave his money to the clerk to pay another employee named Seth said, ‘Stop a minute.’ Seth reached into his pocket and pulled out his debit card and swiped it to pay for Deputy Pattee's dinner.
"After telling Seth that he didn't need to do that, Seth absolutely refused to let him pay and said ‘Thank you for your service and your hard job that you do every day...we appreciate it.’ Deputy Pattee had never met Seth before but wanted to make sure that he gave him a public thank you!”
On Oct. 21, Deputy Pattee, Sheriff Jeff Danker, Chief Deputy John Reynolds and Lt. Rob Ambrose all visited Seth at work to give him an honorary sheriff’s office badge patch and pin.
