On Oct. 29, a Pell City, Alabama, woman was brought to tears by a random act of kindness from a complete stranger.
Melissa Simms was having one of those those days where nothing was going her way, WBRC reported. She had undergone several surgeries over the last two years and had a follow-up doctor's appointment to attend. To make matters worse, her son had gotten sick and couldn't go to school that day.
“Me and my husband woke up and split out last ten dollars for gas, for him to go to work and for me to make it to my doctor’s appointment,” Simms told WBRC News. “All day I was stressed about how am I going to make supper for my kids.”
Things got worse as Simms learned that her co-pay was a lot more than she was expecting. After Simms' many surgeries, she and her husband were emotionally and financially drained.

Still, Simms went to her appointment and left her son, Trey, in the waiting room until she was finished.
Trey was reportedly approached by a strange woman who handed him an envelope. The woman instructed him to give the envelope to his mother.
When Simms opened the envelope, she found a heartwarming note and a gift that brought her to tears.

The note read, “I’ve had days like you’re having today. Hang in there.” It went on to cite a Bible verse and included a $100 bill. Simms took to Facebook to thank the anonymous woman.
Simms wrote in her Oct. 29 post to the Facebook page "What's Happening In Pell City":
“Sorry I had to share this… I was having one of those days where it just seemed everything was going wrong and then….a unknown woman which I will call her an (EARTHLY ANGEL) handed this to my son while we were at the doctors office to give me. This made my whole entire day THANK YOU and I will pay it forward! I have read about these random acts of kindness, but this is the first time I have ever experienced it first hand!!! Just thought maybe this could cheer up someone’s day as much as it has mine!!!”
Simms used the money to pay for her appointment and to buy groceries for her family. She said she was thankful to the woman who helped her in her time of need, and hopes that she can one day return the favor.
“I don't know what she looks like, I don't know her name, but I hope I get to meet her to say thank you,” Simms said. “It’s the kindest thing that's ever been done.
“Truly from the bottom of my heart I thank this woman. I would love to repay it and to pay it forward one day just like she did.”
