A farmer in Australia was stunned to discover that a giant red-black spider lifted a snake off the ground and “hurled it” into its web.

The spider and the eastern brown snake, two of the country’s most deadly creatures, were engaged in something of a battle royale when farmer Neale Postlethwaite caught the incredible sight on video.

“It's just mindboggling,” Postlethwaite said. “I can't believe it was actually able to stop it and then hurl it up backwards into its nest.”

Postlethwaite discovered the snake trapped in the spider’s web on Saturday, and it was miraculously still alive.

“I thought the snake was dead and went to put my finger there and the snake was still alive at the time,” he said. The eastern brown snake, known for its toxic venom, fell victim to the spider’s equally poisonous venom – it was found dead the next day, being devoured by ants.

Postlethwaite said that the creatures were found under his wife’s car, adding that she has been hesitant about driving since the snake and the spider were discovered.

“My wife doesn't want to drive her car until she can get an underbody car wash,” he joked.
