A photo taken after U.S. President Donald Trump's first meeting with Pope Francis has gone viral, with many internet users joking about the "unhappy" looking Pope.
Trump's first foreign trip as president culminated with a visit to the Vatican on May 24, where the president and the pope had a private meeting for approximately 30 minutes. According to CNN, neither leader will disclose what the meeting was about, but the conversation seemed to have a big impact on Trump.
"Thank you. I won't forget what you said," said the president just before exiting the pope's private study.
The Vatican wrote in a statement that they discussed "the promotion of peace in the world through political negotiation and interreligious dialogue," specifically emphasizing on the importance of protecting Christians in the Middle East.

But, people are instead focusing not on the content of the meeting, but on the photo taken after it. According to Uproxx, NBC Senior News Editor Bradd Jaffy tweeted out a photo of an exasperated-looking pope standing next to a smiling Trump. First Lady Melania Trump and First Daughter Ivanka Trump also stand next to the president.
"Look at their faces," Jaffy captioned the photo.
With more than 2,900 retweets, journalists and other social media users are having a field day, turning the photo into a meme.

"When your parents make you go to the weird kid's birthday party," one person captioned, joking that the pope doesn't look particularly enthused to be meeting the president.
"Fester, Morticia and Wednesday visit an unhappy Pope," another person wrote.
Jenny Bendry, a politics reporter for The Huffington Post, shared an excerpt from the press pool's notes on the meeting in an attempt to prove that the pope was not excited by the meeting:
When the pool entered the study, the pope and the president were seated across from each other at the pope's wooden desk.
POTUS told the pope it's "a very great honor."
The pope did not say anything. He did not smile. He looked at [press] pool several times. We were quickly ushered out at 8:33am."
Trump didn't seem too fazed by the pope's stoic demeanor. According to CNN, he thought the meeting went quite well and seemed particularly impressed by the religious leader.
"He is something," Trump said of Pope Francis. "We had a fantastic meeting. We're liking Italy very, very much and it was an honor to be with the Pope."
