New developments in a murder-suicide case indicate the woman who was found dead alongside her husband and three children planned on leaving the marriage the day of the murder.
When Pennsylvania police were called to Sinking Spring home on Aug. 6, they found the bodies of Megan Short, her husband, Mark Short, and their three children, 2-year-old Willow, 8-year-old Lianna and 5-year-old Mark Jr., the New York Post reported. A dog was also found dead.
Police found a gun next to one of the adults and a handwritten note that “appeared to be a ‘murder-suicide’ note,” according to the district attorney’s office.
Angie Burke, a neighbor of the family, told police Megan had posted on Facebook that she planned to leave her husband and needed help moving out of the house on Aug. 6, the day the shooting occurred, the Reading Eagle reported.
Burke told the newspaper she saw the Facebook post about a week ago. She said the post was written in a comment for an online article about abuse.
The couple had recently been featured in news stories about their difficulties getting medication for their 2-year-old daughter, who had a heart transplant. District Attorney John Adams said the couple had been having “domestic issues.”
Investigators will conduct forensic analysis of evidence taken from the crime scene. The suspected shooter has yet to be identified.
