Though many Americans are defrosting turkeys and preparing for the onslaught of family for Thanksgiving, others don’t have a place to go.
However, Bada Bing! Pizzeria in Springfield, Ohio, is reaching out to the less fortunate. The pizzeria posted a sign in its window inviting anyone who was hungry or didn’t have money to visit on Thanksgiving Day. “We will make sure you get plenty to eat,” the sign read.
A photo of the offer has gone viral and has garnered nearly 7,000 shares, Mashable reported.
Owner Jason Hauge told ABC22 that the response has been “overwhelming.”
"I mean we're still closed, but we'll be open," he said. "we'll open up our hearts and our dining room so if anyone wants Thanksgiving dinner they're more than welcome to join us.”
Hague isn't sure how many people will show up. "Now we're a little nervous," said Hague. "We don't know what to expect. It could be 15, maybe 20 people, or it could be 200 people, we don't know."
Still, plenty have offered to help. "I'm really beside myself. I've actually been very humbled," Hague said. Come Thursday afternoon, his ovens that usually help feed pizza to a crowd of strangers, will be feeding turkeys to his much "extended family."
"If we're able to feed even one hungry person, I'm fine with that," Hague said. "But if it turns out to be something more monumental, we'll think about doing something next year for sure.”
