| by Emily Smith

A video (below) featuring pediatrician Robert Hamilton went viral after he showed how to calm down a crying baby with a simple gesture.

Hamilton introduced his fail-safe method to calm a newborn. The gesture involves holding the newborn and crossing its right and left hands over its chest. While Hamilton holds the baby’s hands to its chest with his left palm, he uses his right hand to support the baby’s bottom.

The gesture is known as The Hold, which effectively stops a child from crying.

While holding the baby, the doctor stirs it from left to right. Every child he performs the gesture on is appeased.
