During her program on Dec. 12, MSNBC host Melissa Harris Perry lamented how "Star Wars" character Darth Vader is a "black guy" only when he is bad (video below).
"I spent the whole day talking about the while Darth Vader situation," Perry said. "The part where he was totally a black guy, whose name was basically James Earl Jones. While he was black he was terrible and bad, awful and used to cut off white men’s hands, and didn’t actually claim his son. But as soon as he claims his son, and goes over to the good, he takes off his mask and he is white, yes, I have many, many feelings about that, but I will try to put them over here.”
However, Mediaite.com notes that Vader revealed to Luke Skywalker that was his father while still dressed in black; Vader was originally supposed to have a Scottish accent, but Jones was brought in during post-production. Because Vader is the father of Princess Leia and Skywalker, it would make sense that he was white.
“Regarding Darth Vader, please," actress Janine Turner told Fox Business on Dec. 14, according to RawStory.com. "The Bible talks about darkness and light. This is about evil and good. Darkness and light."
“This doesn’t have anything to do with anything else, this goes back to biblical times,” Turner added. “It’s been discussed in the Bible, Jesus talks about it. It’s about darkness and light, evil and good.”
