A mother shared a heartbreaking Facebook post after she witnessed her 3-year-old son being bullied for having red hair.

Lauren Russell, a 24-year-old mother from Southampton, England, had just boarded a bus with her son, Noah Gilbert, when a group of teenagers began making fun of his red hair. Some of the teens, according to Russell, said that the would “kill” their child if he or she were “ginger.”

“All kids with ginger hair should go straight to social services,” another teen reportedly said.

Gilbert seems to have heard the comments, later asking his mother why he had “horrible hair” and why he couldn’t have blonde hair like his brother.

“Noah's now really aware of his hair [color] and thinks it's horrible. He doesn't understand why he isn't blond like his siblings. I couldn't believe these spiteful teenagers could upset my son like that,” she wrote. Russell then explained why she decided to share her son’s story.

“The reason I am trying to go public with this is because I know these cruel bullies are in the minority. I want to show my little boy that there is more good in this world than bad. There are kind and caring non judgemental people who won’t ever single him out,” she wrote.

“I ask you all to please share this and show my boy how beautiful he is. I want to show him the good in this world with the power of Facebook. It isn’t OK to bully somebody for their hair [color], not now. Not ever.”

Russell’s post quickly went viral, garnering over 18,000 shares and 7,000 comments.

“I really didn’t think it would go so far on Facebook. It’s amazing what social media can do. My inbox has been crazy — I have had about 500 messages from strangers and there is not one negative comment on there,” Russell said of the response her post received.
