The 39th Annual Kennedy Center Honors in Washington, D.C., was characterized by celebrity appearances, light-hearted banter -- and controversy over Michelle Obama's choice of attire.
The First Lady arrived at the Kennedy Center Opera House on Dec. 4 wearing a black, green and pink gown designed by Gucci. While some complimented the dress, others took to social media to express their revulsion.
"Good Lord, what roll of cheap a-- wrapping paper did that walmart looking dress come from?" a woman wrote on Twitter, according to Bizpac Review.
"OMG How embarrassing!" was another user's reaction.

"Nice to see Michelle's absolutely horrid taste in clothing hasn’t improved," read yet another tweet.
And a woman calling herself "Trump's Tennis Girl" tweeted that the First Lady's outfit reminded her "of a boring spinach salad."
Bizpac Review itself described the gown as a "green monstrosity."

But the reaction wasn't all critical. Hollywood Life said Michelle looked "ravishing" and "drop-dead-gorgeous," while E! News called the dress a "show-stopping number."
The event, which included appearances by Al Pacino, Kevin Spacey and Steven Colbert, will be broadcast Dec. 27 on CBS at 9 p.m., according to CBS News.
