A Bronx man has been found guilty of murder after killing his own mother and then taking a selfie with her dismembered head.
Bahsid McLean, 26, was charged with second-degree murder and unlawful dissection of a human being on Nov. 4 in Bronx Criminal Court, the New York Daily News reported.
According to prosecutors, McLean stabbed his mother, 45-year-old Tanya Byrd, to death on Feb. 26, 2013, in their Morrisania apartment. Byrd had reportedly told McLean that he was a lousy father.
McLean then went to a hardware store and bought a 2-foot power saw. He used the power saw to dismember his mother’s body, police said.

Afterward, McLean took a selfie holding his mother’s severed head. He then stuffed her body parts in garbage bags and dumped the bags throughout the neighborhood. McLean called police to report his mother missing, the Daily Mail reported.
"If you can kill somebody, you should be able to cut them up too," McLean told police after being arrested. "If you can't do that, if don't have the stomach to cut them up, then you're a coward."
McLean’s attorney, Lynn Calvacca, tried making the argument that her client was mentally disturbed. The defense team claimed McLean was “broken” and had been hearing voices in his head since he was a child.
During her opening statement at the trial in Bronx Supreme Court in October, Calvacca showed the jury the photo of McLean smiling while holding his mother’s severed head.

“Does this look like someone who knows what he is doing is wrong?” she asked.
The victim’s sister, Cassandra McLean, 53, had previously told the New York Daily News that her nephew was dangerous and should be in jail for life.
“If he could do that to his own mother, imagine what he could do to a stranger,” she said. “I don't hate him I pity him.”
McLean will be sentenced on Dec. 5. He faces 25 years to life in jail.
