For 365 days, Dean Smith asked his girlfriend to marry him every single day. She was completely in the dark, but when he finally proposed to her in person, Smith had created a video to show her his yearlong profession of love.
In the viral clip, Scottsdale, Arizona resident Smith holds up a whiteboard each day for an entire year asking his girlfriend Jennifer Kessel to marry him. Each day, Smith is shown in a variety of different situations, including doing the laundry, taking a shower and eating breakfast.
After a year of proposing, Smith was finally ready to do it for real. While on a family trip to Aruba, Kessel was sent on a scavenger hunt that eventually led to her being shown the video of her boyfriend’s daily proposals. As she’s sitting on the beach finishing up with the video, the shocked girlfriend is told to turn around. Smith, down on one knee, finally asks her to marry him in front of a crowd of onlookers, and Kessel instantly says yes.
“I knew that Jennifer was a fan of proposal videos on YouTube and would tear up at the sincerity and thoughtfulness of each proposal,” Smith explained. “She showed several of them to me, and I decided that I wanted to make her tear up to her own proposal.”
