A wild brawl broke out in New York City on July 19 between a white driver and a black pedestrian (video below).
Paul Tena, who filmed the fight and uploaded it to Twitter, gave a blow-by-blow description of the incident to the West Side Rag:
The fight started around the corner on 94th and moved out onto Broadway. The first trash can was thrown at the car which prompted the man in white to get out his machete. He then chased the man in red into the Broadway median with it at which time I started filming. I stopped filming when the fighting ended.
The couple drove off and turned on west 93rd. The police arrived shortly after and the man in red flagged them down, tried to direct them to follow the car and even tried to get in the back seat of the squad car. They didn’t let him enter and sped off down 93rd. At this point a second unit arrived and I told them that the piece of the machete was still in the street in front of their cruiser.

At this point the silver car was back again at the corner of Broadway and 94th being pulled over by the first police car. He was handcuffed and other witnesses were talking to both units when I left the scene.
Police said the driver, Louis Roman, made a comment to the pedestrian about not paying attention while walking and looking at his phone instead, reports the New York Post. Roman allegedly flashed a gun clip at the pedestrian, and things went downhill from there.
Roman's female companion got out of the car twice to break up the fight, which actually prolonged the conflict and delayed Roman's departure, resulting in his arrest.

Tena gave another post-fight analysis to the New York Daily News:
The car was about to go on Broadway when the guy in the red shirt picked up the garbage can and threw it. That’s when the other guy stopped the car and pulled out the machete. I kind of walked into this.
My thing is, who has a machete in their trunk? On top of that, they’re pretty bad fighters. Then [the machete] breaks. If your machete is going to break, that's a bad sign. When they started throwing beverages at each other, you knew it was over.
According to the newspaper, no gun was found at the scene. Police said the pedestrian was taken to a local hospital with a non-critical injury.
