Actress Lena Dunham described flashing her vagina - on this week's episode of her HBO series "Girls" - during an interview with late night talk show host Seth Meyers on April 6 (video below).

The "Girls" episode is entitled "Hello Kitty" and features Dunham's character, a teacher, flashing her school principal by not wearing any panties and spreading her legs as actress Sharon Stone did in the film "Basic Instinct," notes Uproxx.com.

"We saw everything that I had to offer," Dunham told Meyers.

Dunham also recalled that when they were shooting the scene the director had to "add an extra key light because they couldn't see quite clearly enough ... I had to have an extra light for my vagina."

“Here’s why it’s not porn,” Dunham added. “Because you don't see what's inside. So I feel like I can continue to proudly campaign for a presidential candidate ... Not that I have a problem with people who show what's inside, I'm just saying that in our conservative nation, I didn’t go all the way.”

"I think for anyone who desires porn, it really takes the edge off when you think of it that way," Meyers added. "Because I don't think you ever think, 'Let's see what's inside.'"

The flashing has been scrutinized by the left and right.

The left-leaning Refinery29 wrote of Dunham's character:

Her genital display is actually just sexual harassment, plain and simple. Sure, she could make the case that it was an 'accident,' if push came to shove. But the truth is that Hannah intentionally used her body — a very intimate part of it — to reshape a situation to her advantage. People have ended up on sex offender registries for far less.

Girls gets that. Sarah Heyward, the writer who crafted the episode, is hardly asking us to sympathize with Hannah. Rather, we're getting to see another facet of just how very oblivious — and selfish — this character can really be. Hannah's thought process is made uncomfortably obvious through her actions and her conversation with Fran after the fact: She clearly feels entitled to showing her vagina for shock factor so that she can get what she wants.

But Breitbart News, a right-leaning news site, noted Dunham's defense of her character in an HBO "Inside the Episode" segment:

The 29-year-old, who is an advocate against sexual assault and rape, added her character is 'allowed to be the kind of woman who would flash her vagina at someone.'

Dunham further explained the only reason she was embarrassed over exposing her vagina to her shrinking audience: 'Mostly because I wish that I had a fuller bush. I just think it would look better — the whole thing would work better.'

Breitbart News added that ratings have steadily dropped off for the once popular HBO hit, and "Girls" will conclude with its sixth season.
