The Republican presidential debate on March 3 was too much for trash talk show host Jerry Springer.
"They ought to run a crawl along the bottom of the screen, [saying] ‘This is NOT a debate for junior high school class president,’” Springer recently told the Financial Times.
The debate quickly went off the presidential rails as GOP front-runner Donald Trump assured the audience that he did have large hands, an apparent reference to his penis size. Trump was firing back at a “small hands” insult made by Republican presidential candidate Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida on Feb. 29.
There were also insults exchanged during the debate between Trump, Rubio and Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas.
“Clearly they could be on our show, but now they’ve gone off the deep end, and we would start bleeping out some of what they’d say,” Springer stated.
“If it was Springer versus Trump, there really would be a wall on the border because you’d need to build a wall to keep Americans from trying to get out,” Springer added. “I mean, people would be taking hot air balloons to try to get out!”
Frank Luntz, a Republican pollster who held a focus group during the debate, said that “22 of the 25 had a negative reaction to the debate and 24 of the 25 felt it would actually benefit the Democrats because of all the ‘adolescent’ and ‘schoolyard’ comments.”
Evangelist Franklin Graham tossed in his two cents on his Facebook page on March 4: “Yesterday former governor and 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney stepped in and gave a scathing attack against the current Republican front-runner.
"I’m 63 years old and I’ve never seen anything like this. This Republican presidential campaign has not only sunk to new lows, but the Republican establishment seems to be desperate to pick their own candidate.
"There are some good candidates running, but I’m not going to endorse any of them. I’m fed up with both the Republican and the Democratic parties. Both are corrupt — clearly broken — and need to be overhauled. They need radical change. What do you think?”
