"Jack Russell" Puppy Turns Out To Be 210 Pound Great Dane

Nine years ago, an English woman told her husband a 210-pound lie.

When Sue Markham’s husband, Robert Markham, told her that he did not want a big dog, the 57-year-old woman said that Yogi, the puppy she had brought home, was a Jack Russell Terrier, according to the Daily Mail.

“I thought a big dog would be a lot of work and could be trouble,” said Robert, also 57. “We only have a small living room. I thought, ‘How much trouble could a Jack Russell be?’”

After a few months, Robert noticed that there was something off about what was supposed to be a small terrier.

"Obviously as the weeks went by, Yogi just kept growing, bigger and bigger and he never stopped eating,” Robert said, according to the Mirror. “By the time he was five months old, he was bigger than any Jack Russell he came across at the park and he had this big tongue that lolled out of his mouth and a tail like a baseball bat.”

“It started to become fairly obvious when Bear dwarfed any other dogs in the village, so the game was up,” Sue added about the huge Boston Great Dane with a fitting nickname.

By the time Yogi had reached his full size of six feet and 10 inches from nose to tail, the two had fallen in love with the gentle giant. Now, the 9-year-old dog is “one of the family.”

“He certainly thinks of himself as a real person,” Sue said.

Bear is best friends with a neighborhood cat named Toffee that the Markhams recently took in, and they usually share a bed.

Yogi requires custom cold-weather clothing and eats about $58 worth of food each week, but despite his size, the 210-pound dog is fairly timid.

“Bear is a big softy, he really doesn't know his own size at all,” said Sue. "If we take him to new places he often gets quite scared and will be nervous walking around. It takes him a couple of visits to get used to somewhere.”

However, she is grateful that Yogi would terrify any potential burglars who laid their eyes on him.

“I think they would run a mile!" she said.
