Illinois Cop Caught Sleeping In His Patrol Car

A police officer was caught on camera sleeping inside his cruiser on Sept. 26 in Evanston, Illinois.

A picture of the napping cop was posted on local news station WGN-TV's Facebook page, where it went viral.

Community activist Carolyn Murray claimed the picture was taken by an unidentified bystander while the police officer was parked outside a movie theater, notes CBS Chicago.

Evanston Police Cmdr. Joe Dugan said in a statement:

"We are held to a higher standard, and it is unacceptable, as well as embarrassing. The officer is embarrassed, as are we. The officer is not being [identified]. He is a good officer with no discipline issues. He was on the tail end a double shift when he fell asleep."

“Anytime, obviously, an officer is caught, you know, committing a violation against policy, you know, it’s not only embarrassing, but very discouraging for the image of the department,” Evanston Deputy Police Chief Jay Parrott told WBBM Radio via CBS Chicago.
