A Starbucks customer was shocked to read the offensive message a barista left on his coffee cup.

The St. Augustine, Florida, customer went to the coffee shop to order a grande white mocha, and was shocked to see the comment "diabetes here I come" written in capital letters near the top of his cup.

"That first word just automatically brought the picture of both sisters in my head, and I was taken aback," the customer said. The man told WJAX that he works near the shop and was getting coffee for co-workers.

The offensive message, he said, reminded him of his two diabetic sisters.

"Just the struggles they went through and all the doctor appointments they had," he said. The customer left a note on the cup for employees in the hopes that they would read it and not judge others.

"Two of my sisters are diabetic, so…not funny."

The news station presented Starbucks manager Kent Miller with photos of the cup, and Miller condemned the message.

"No we definitely don't condone, but let me find more about this, and I will talk to my boss," Miller said.

Starbucks corporate issued a statement to WJAX about the controversy.

"We strive to provide an inclusive and positive experience for our customers, and we're disappointed to learn of this incident," the statement read. "We are working directly with the customer to apologize for his experience, and with our partners (employees) to ensure this does not happen again."

In a similar incident in Connecticut, a man discovered that a Starbucks barista wrote the word "China" in place of his name on his drink.

"I was looking at my cup and then I see the word China on it and I was like whoa this is kind of weird. It never happened before. Usually they’ll put your name on it or what type of drink you have," the customer, named David, told WTIC. He is an Asian-American.
