A new tabloid report said on June 8 that fitness guru Richard Simmons has transitioned to female, which Simmons has denied through a representative.

The National Enquirer quotes an unidentified source as saying that Simmons has undergone secret surgeries, including breast implants and castration, and has had hormone therapy.

The gossip magazine published a cover picture of Simmons in a white fur outfit with his hair done in a feminine style.

The magazine claims to have more pictures of Simmons "draped in furs and lingerie" inside his Hollywood Hills mansion in its current issue.

An unidentified friend told the National Enquirer: "[This is] not just Richard Simmons in drag. This is Richard dressed as a softly spoken woman named Fiona!"

However, Simmons' spokesman Tom Estey told PEOPLE:

It's not true. He is not transitioning into a woman. He has decided to live quietly the last few years. He had knee surgery a few years ago and has a bum knee. He is still on Twitter and Facebook and works behind the scenes continuing to inspire and motivate people to lose weight. When he decides to come back, he will come back.

[Simmons] was in the hospital over the weekend for dehydration and was out the next day. He's a human being. He was in the public eye for over three decades, but he deserves his privacy. He should be able to have a private life. He just needed a break. He is still taking care of the people who need his help.

According to PEOPLE, the 67-year-old was transported to a Los Angeles hospital on June 3, which may have spurred the sex change story by the Enquirer; it's not clear where the tabloid got its photos, which may be Photoshopped.

Simmons wrote on his Facebook page on June 6: "Thank you to everyone who has reached out with love and concern after hearing I was in the hospital. I was dehydrated and needed some fluids and now I am feeling great! Summer is here - drink plenty of liquids. Big hugs and kisses for caring."
