Fisherman Snags Drone In Flight (Video)

| by Amanda Andrade-Rhoades

A man fishing off of Pacific Beach in San Diego, California, was probably looking to hook a fish when he set up his reel, but he wound up catching something other than dinner (video below).

The fisherman intentionally hooked a drone owned by Tice Ledbetter, who was shooting aerial footage of the surrounding area, Mashable reported.

“What a jerk! Gotta admit though, that cast was spot on!” Ledbetter wrote in the description of his video, which has garnered more than 2 million views.

Ledbetter managed to fly his drone into a safe landing about half a mile away from the pier, where he untangled fishing line from one of the  quadcopter’s rotor, Gizmodo reported.

Although the drone managed to get away, it’s not clear if anyone broke the law. A San Diego city ordinance makes it a misdemeanor to fly an unmanned glider over public property without a permit, but it's not clear if that law applies to drones.
