Two Filipino divers, John David Pahoyo and John Elmerson Fabriga, recently scored perfect zeros during a 3-meter springboard competition in Singapore.
The divers turned flips, but landed on their backs and knees during their embarrassing efforts at the 28th Southeast Asian Games (SEA), reported USA TODAY (video below).
Pahoyo wrote on Facebook today: "This was not the first time I failed a dive, and I was not the first one who did so. And I am still proud because not all of us has the privilege to represent our own country [in a] big sporting event like this," reports ABS-CBNNews.com.
Mark Joseph, who heads the Philippine Aquatic Sports Association, told the Filipino website SPIN.ph, "They’re new, they’re young. It's their first time at this level, so don’t expect fireworks."
Joseph added, "I am not surprised, I am not surprised. I mean the amount of money that is spent in our sports is nothing compared to our kalaban. It’s that simple."
