The father of a 7-month-old girl who died when her mother rolled over onto her while high on drugs has asked for friends and family to forgive the mother in an emotional Facebook post.
Marco Mejia is recovering from the loss of his 7-month-old daughter Olaia Marie Mejia, who died at a children’s hospital in Philadelphia after her mother, Lisa Marie Scalia, accidentally smothered her by rolling onto her while allegedly high on drugs.
Scalia is in jail, being held on $100,000 bond, on charges of child endangerment and drug possession. Police found Scalia with 34 bags of heroin and 10 oxycodone pills, according to the Associated Press.
“Please everyone remember that Lisa Marie loved Olaia Marie,” Marco wrote on Facebook Jan. 10, according to Yahoo. He added that he refuses "to believe she did this horrible act on purpose.”

Facebook friends of Marco’s offered words of support for the father and his daughter’s mother while the parents struggle through a difficult time.
“You’re a good man Marco,” wrote Jackie Chalmers. “I can’t imagine how Lisa is feeling and anyone who thinks this might have been on purpose is an idiot.”
Emergency medical personnel were able to revive Olaia at Scalia’s home when they arrived on Jan. 3. The infant was brought to a children’s hospital, where she eventually died on the morning of Jan. 8.
Scalia could potentially face more serious charges in addition to the charges of child endangerment and grid possession following her daughter’s death, according to the AP.
