Sports broadcaster Erin Andrews was awarded $55 million on March 7 in a lawsuit she filed against both the Marriott at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, and her convicted stalker, Michael David Barrett.

Andrews is a host for Fox Sports and "Dancing with the Stars."

In 2008, Barrett recorded a video of Andrews in the nude that lasted about four and a half minutes. She was unaware she was being recorded while she was in the hotel room, reports the Daily Mail.

Barrett had removed the peephole from Andrews’ hotel room door, which allowed him to film the inside of her room with a camera phone. Barrett then posted the video online for public viewing.

Andrews only found out about the video after it had been posted online.

The hotel allowed Barrett to book a room right next to Andrews, which made it easy for him to carry out his plan.

Millions of people have seen the video and Andrews says she deals with constant harassment both online and in public, reports NBC News.

“This happens every day of my life," Andrews said tearfully during her testimony. “Either I get a tweet or somebody makes a comment in the paper or somebody sends me a still video to my Twitter or someone screams it at me in the stands and I'm right back to this. I feel so embarrassed and I am so ashamed.”

Lawyers for the hotel company said Barrett should be blamed for the filming, not the hotel. They stated Andrews could not have been severely damaged by the filming, because she has benefited from the increased popularity and professional success that it has brought her, reports NBC News.

"Her career skyrocketed, her career went up, so from our perspective, none of the benchmarks that would indicate a serious mental injury existed," said one of the lawyers.

Andrews originally sued for $75 million, but after deliberating for less than eight hours on March 7, the jury decided on the reduced award of $55 million.
