Ellen DeGeneres told SiriusXM radio host Howard Stern today that Caitlyn Jenner "still has a judgment about gay marriage" (video below).
DeGeneres was referring to an interview that she taped with Jenner on her talk show last week, which was DeGeneres' premiere episode today, notes Mediaite.com.
She still has a judgment about gay marriage, she's saying that ... And I said, "You’re wanting people to understand and accept you, this is like, really confusing to people, and you still have a judgment about gay people and marriage.” And she goes, "Well, if the word marriage is that important," and I was like, "It is because that's the word, like, we want the same thing everybody..."
Stern, who has mocked gay people numerous times on his radio show, described Jenner's reaction as "remarkable" because Jenner has been on TV "crying" about wanting to be himself.
Stern wanted to know if Jenner danced with the talk show host, and DeGeneres said: “No, she didn't dance. I don't think she's a dancer. I don't think she's a dancer. And maybe she didn’t want to dance with me because I’m a lesbian."
DeGeneres said that it was a "great interview," was glad Jenner came on her show, but added that she really doesn't know Jenner.
Stern's co-host Robin Quivers said that Jenner still has a "conservative underlying philosophy."
“Yeah, she's Republican and conservative, and I think a lot of Republicans are wishing she wasn’t Republican,” DeGeneres joked.
Mediaite.com noted last week that Jenner told DeGeneres that she used to oppose gay marriage (video below):
Gay marriage? I have to admit that I remember 15 years ago, 20 years ago, whatever it was when the whole gay marriage issue came up, at first I was not for it.
I mean, I thought, "I’m a traditionalist." I’m older than most people in the audience, you know. I mean, I kind of like tradition, you know, it’s always been a man and a woman. And I'm thinking, "I don't quite get it."
But as time has gone on, I think, like a lot of people on this issue, have really changed your thinking here to: "I don’t ever want to stand in front of anybody’s happiness."
You know? That’s not my job. OK? If that word "marriage" is really, really that important to you, I can go with it, you know.
DeGeneres told Jenner that she (Jenner) didn't really seem on board with gay marriage, but Jenner affirmed that she is, and added that it's the law of the land.
