After Melania Trump was accused of plagiarizing Michelle Obama's 2008 speech, the internet accused presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump of plagiarizing a 2012 tweet from President Barack Obama. But it turns out, the tweet accusation was a hoax.

Melania Trump was ridiculed on social media after journalist Jarrett Hill realized there were several similarities between her speech and Michelle Obama's. Accusations of speech-theft were already going viral once Donald Trump tweeted his support for his wife.

“It was truly an honor to introduce my wife, Melania. Her speech and demeanor were absolutely incredible. Very proud! #GOPConvention” Trump tweeted on July 19 at 12:14 a.m.

Soon after, a Twitter user who goes by the handle @andsjeff posted a photo of a 2012 tweet from Barack Obama with nearly identical language.

A police officer saw a young black couple drive by and pulled them over. What he did next left them stunned:

“It was truly an honor to introduce my wife, Michelle. Her speech and demeanor were absolutely incredible. Very proud! #DemConvention” said the supposed Barack Obama tweet, which was dated July 19, 2012 and sent at 12:14 a.m.

But a quick search on Twitter showed that Barack Obama never wrote such a tweet.

Also, the 2012 Democratic National Convention was held in September, not July.

But that didn't stop the internet from going forward and accusing both Donald and Melania Trump of stealing their words from the Obamas.

One Twitter user reacted saying, “So Melania Trump stole Michelle Obama's speech and Donald Trump stole Barack Obama's tweet.... Our election system is actually reality tv.”
