Comedian Chris Rock took to Twitter to comment on the recent health crisis plaguing former basketball star Lamar Odom; his joke, however, sparked controversy as many deemed it insensitive.

Rock tweeted a controversial Someecards.com meme alongside the caption, “Stay strong Lamar.”

“Here’s to Lamar Odom on being the first guy in history to have coke and hookers save his marriage,” the meme read.

Rock, who was recently named the host of the next Oscars ceremony, garnered backlash from followers on Twitter for the tweet, reported Daily Mail.

“Too soon,” one follower tweeted. "Shame on you, Rock."

“Way too soon for this,” another wrote.

Odom is currently at a Los Angeles hospital recovering after waking from a coma — the result of a four-day drug binge at a brothel in Nevada, according to Huffington Post. The situation sparked a reunion between the star and his estranged wife, reality star Khloe Kardashian.

Kardashian called off their pending divorce after Odom awoke from his coma.
