Chipotle To Offer Customers Free Burritos Starting Today

| by Emily Smith

Chipotle is offering free burritos through February – that is, if you’re willing to brave tofu.

If you buy the restaurant’s spicy organic tofu topping Sofritas on January 26, Chipotle will give you a free entrée of any kind. For the buy one, get one burrito deal you simply have to bring your receipt to Chipotle and redeem your prize: a free burrito, burrito bowl, salad or taco.

While the idea of consuming organic tofu might be a turn-off for some consumers, the giveaway might convince certain customers that tofu isn’t just for vegans.

“[Sofritas is] organic tofu from Hodo Soy that we shred and then braise with chipotle chilis, roasted poblanos and a blend of aromatic spices,” Chipotle announced. “The result is a delicious, spicy tofu that will give vegans and carnivores something they both will love.”

The giveaway follows a shortage of carnitas that occurred in January, after Chipotle announced that its pork supplier had failed to meet the chain’s animal welfare standards. Now that Chipotle has stopped serving the topping, some believe the giveaway will help customers convert to the new Sofritas topping until the restaurant can return pork to the menu.

The deal can be redeemed now until February 28th.
