When Allan and Margaret Little married, Nazi Germany attacked Poland, "The Wizard of Oz" premiered and Franklin D. Roosevelt was president. The year was 1939 when the couple first took their vows, and they have been together for the past 76 years.

The Littles recently celebrated their 100th birthdays and shared their secrets for a long life and happy marriage.

“We lived this long without arguing and fussing,” Margaret told The Huffington Post in an email. “Alan is a wonderful man, a man of character and it’s been so easy to love and respect him all these years.”

“Margaret has always been there for me and supported me,” Allan said.

“Living with Margaret all these years was easy. It was natural. We lived a simple life with no controversy,” Allan told "Good Morning America."

The centenarians first met at church when they were both 7 years old. After that, they became high school sweethearts when Margaret threw a party for an out-of-town cousin and invited Allan because he was supposed to be set up with the cousin. But instead of falling for the cousin, Allan fell for the host.

The were married on Aug. 5, 1939. Allan worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 40 years, before retiring in 1978, while Margaret worked in life insurance.

The Littles have three children — two boys that unfortunately died in infancy, and a daughter with special needs, Jane Harris, who died when she was 46.

Although they have outlived their children, the Littles say they have remained positive due in large part to their strong Christian faith. The two centenarians are devoted members of the Charlotte Avenue Church of Christ where they met as children.

“I am surprised I lived this long,” Margaret said. "Lots of good care and God has just richly blessed me.”

The couple threw a 100th birthday party for Allan at the Lakeshore in the Meadows senior center — where they live — in Nashville, Tennessee, on Nov. 12.

Margaret’s gift to him was a blue sweater with his initials monogrammed on it. “I got a jacket! It’s got my initials on it,” Allan proclaimed in the party video. “I like the color! Babe, you done good!”
