An Army specialist who was reportedly denied leave to go to a baby shower changed his reason for leaving in a post that went viral online.

In the space for his reason on the form for requesting leave, the specialist wrote that he was going to a baby shower. His remarks were crossed out in red pen, and beside it, his commanding officer wrote a note saying, "MEN DON'T GO TO BABY SHOWERS," according to a user who posted an image of the form on Reddit.

After his request was denied, the specialist reportedly changed his answer on the form. The new reason read, "Going home to the Appalachian mountains to drink whiskey, wrestle bears, and shoot lots of guns. I also plan to grow out my beard, chop down a hundred trees with my axe and eat 10lbs of thick cut bacon with my wife, whom I plan to have lots of unprotected sex with, because I am a man and that's just what we do. Football."

Some users on the service cheered for the specialist for standing up against sexism, while others questioned the authenticity of the images.

"It's bogus," said user Kaarous, "No CO would ever, ever use a red pen for corrections on a leave form (let alone even carry a red pen)." Kaarous also pointed out that the note could be used in an equal opportunity complaint against the CO.

"Also unlikely that an E-4 would submit a leave request to such a high ranking officer as a CO (though I could be proven wrong)," said user Sonnackrm.

"All of the other fields are blank," pointed out NotWisestOldMan. "Funny joke, though."

Other users were simply confused. "When did men at baby showers become a thing?" asked one.

"I don't think it's real," said user Tony_Pittsicata. "In the modern Army leaving any sort of negative paper trail is the fast track to end your career at E6 if you make it that far."
