Sarah Palin is the undisputed favorite of the Tea Party, rallying the troops around her "mama grizzly" and other incomprehensible ideas, right? Well, Palin is apparently so 2008. The Tea Party has a new Flavor of the Month -- New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
They took a poll at a Tea Party convention in Virginia over the weekend, asking attendees whom they would pick for president in 2012. Palin often wins these contests, but not this time around. The portly governor finished first with 15% of the vote. Palin followed closely behind with 14.6%.
Now before you run out and put a "Christie for President" sign on your front lawn, the tough-talking govenor has said he has absolutely no intention of running for president in 2012. Palin hasn't made any promises, but she keeps hinting that she will indeed be a candidate.
But this poor showing against a relatively unknown governor might give Palin cause for concern. With 2,300 people in attendance, this was believed to be the largest gathering of national Tea Party members ever. And if she can't win their support, what makes her think run-of-the-mill Republicans or even a single Democrat would vote for her?

By the way, Rep. Ron Paul with 13.5%, Newt Gingrich (9%) and Sen. Jim DeMint with 8% rounded out the top five.
