Larry King's Wife Overdoses on Pills? Listen to 911 Call

Larry King’s wife, Shawn Southwick King, overdosed on pills on May 28th.

Shawn’s father, Karl Engemann, showed up at her home that morning because the two had a meeting. He tried to wake her but he could not. He called 911 when he realized something was wrong.

Engemann told the 911 dispatcher that Shawn, 50, had been confused about what pills she had taken the night before, and that she may have overmedicated. He said that he did not think it was a suicide attempt.

Engemann is heard saying on the 911 call: “She may have overmedicated. I don’t think she did it on purpose. Last night she seemed confused about what she had taken, the last time she had taken it.”

Engemann told the dispatcher that no matter what he did he could not rouse her. “She’s unconscious. I slap her and I holler at her, and she opens her eyes halfway and puts them back down again.”

Although it may not have been a suicide attempt, Shawn has been taking medication for anxiety and depression. She went to rehab in 2008 for an addiction to prescription pain pills.
