Harmony Korine’s (Kids, Gummo) Spring Breakers toured the festival circuit last fall to much acclaim after it bowed in Venice and screened at TIFF. It’s apparently a variation of Girls Gone Wild mashed up with Follow the Boys and Sugar & Spice…or something. It could end up being Korine’s most mainstream film yet, or it could be something much more subversive:
“Brit, Candy, Cotty, and Faith have been best friends since grade school. They live together in a boring college dorm and are hungry for adventure. All they have to do is save enough money for spring break to get their shot at having some real fun. A serendipitous encounter with rapper “Alien” promises to provide the girls with all the thrill and excitement they could hope for. With the encouragement of their new friend, it soon becomes unclear how far the girls are willing to go to experience a spring break they will never forget.”
Popular VideoPeople were so furious about this Pepsi ad that Pepsi pulled it after just one day. Watch it here and decide if it's offensive:
Korine (Kids, Gummo) directed from his own script. James Franco, Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, his wife Rachel Korine, Ashley Benson and Gucci Mane all star.
Annapurna Pictures (Lawless, Killing Them Softly, Zero Dark Thirty, The Master) surprised a lot of people by picking up the rights in the US. It will finally release here (not before we get a good trailer, I hope) sometime this Spring. Most of Europe also gets it in March.
