On May 8th, Secretary of the Interior announced he would not be
rescinding the Bush regulation that removes global warming from
consideration as part of the protections afforded to polar bears under
the Endangered Species Act. Following his announcement, Greenpeace
staged a symbolic protest in which a polar brown was drowned in the
pond outside the Department of the Interior. We wanted to express our
disappointment with the fact that Salazar has caved to industry
pressure rather than listen to the 150,000 Americans who signed a
petition asking him to save the polar bears.
