As Shakespeare once wisely put it, “smooth runs the water where the brook is deep”. In this class we will begin to climb down into the infinite depth that is the internal universe. To start our journey inward, we will bring warmth to the body with soft, free-flowing movement, then gently transition toward a sequence of longer held, supportive postures coming from both the restorative and yin traditions. When the body is supported properly, space and freedom are created in the joints and spine. This method of practice results in a rush of pranic healing, calming the nervous system, and revitalizing the adrenals, thereby relieving stress and fatigue. Again and again we will surrender the physical into the mudra of the shape. As the body settles into its most natural state, the mind will begin to follow suit and vise-versa, shifting together into the ever-deepening waters of clarity, wisdom, and the nourishing wellspring of peace.
Poetry in Motion
Weaving together a tapestry of various lineages and styles, this advanced asana practice provides an opportunity to safely, creatively, and warm-heartedly explore what is possible in the physical realm. As we string the postures together down a thread of creativity, we will fine-tune both the relationship to the subtle body as well as the quality of meditation that we bring to the moving practice. Set to inspiring music, the fluid interface of opening, strengthening, and deepening creates an artistic rhythm that coaxes the practitioner closer to Self. Recommended for people who are ready for advanced variations of inversions, jumpbacks, backbends, binds and lotus, this class is designed to truly challenge, inspire, and express.
